Are you being taken for a ride?
- Do you ever feel you are being taken for a ride by other people?
- Or maybe you are being taken for a ride by your own mind.
I think we have all been there. I have been on one too many of ‘other people’s ride’ in the past and it took me awhile to figure out that I was going in the wrong direction.
Normal or natural?
In my book ‘Imagine Being Kind to Yourself‘ I write about the difference between normal or natural.
“According to dictionary Wikipedia, the word natural means “fixed or determined by nature, pertaining to the constitution of a thing, belonging to native character, according to nature, essential, characteristic, not artificial.”
The word normal refers to “a lack of significant deviation from the average.”
Barry Long used to say: “What is normal is not necessarily natural.”
Most people are still following the norm instead of what is Natural to them, which means living a life of separation from yourself, your expression and your fulfillment.
A fun little exercise would be to explore what Natural means to you and if it is flavored by what other people consider normal. Who you are Naturally, may not fit the norm and if you are trying to fit in, you may be taking somebody else’s ride and keep missing that sense of contentment and peace that you so deeply long for.
A little Exercise to find out what is normal or natural to you:
I have a fun little exercise in my book to explore the difference between normal or natural. If you are up for it, get a piece of paper and write a list of what is natural to you, such as
How many hours of sleep is natural to you?
What foods do you know are good and natural for you?
How many hours of work a day feels natural to you?
Does it feel natural to you to spend time in nature?
When you do things for yourself that make you feel good, happy, loving, expanded, healthy and connected, you are doing what is Natural to YOU. Make a list of those.
Then explore your list and see how much of what is natural to you you actually do every day. This is where you will find how much you move away from your Naturalness, your Fulfillment, Joy and Happiness.
